Eileen Barr

Obituary of Eileen Barr

Eileen passed away peacefully with Peter at her side at Hospice Wellington on April 9, 2018.  Eileen devoted her life to loving, raising and nurturing her family.  Beloved wife of Peter Barr for 60 years.  Together, they were always there for family, friends and loved ones.  Loving and devoted mother to Gordon (Lynne), John (Michelle), Stephen (Valerie) and predeceased by David.  Adoring and caring grandmother to eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter.  They were the light of her life and she waited until she had seen them all before finally letting go.  Eileen lived a full life filled with faith and love.

Eileen grew up in the Beach neighbourhood of Toronto where she lived for almost all of her 81 years. She loved the Beach, found love in the Beach, and raised her family there. Eileen was very active there in her church, Variety Village, the ski club and throughout the close knit community. She always found peace in walking along the boardwalk and along Queen Street where she would be sure to bump into friends and family.

Eileen had a genuine zest for life and took much joy in her family. She and Peter raised four sons together, Gordon, John, Stephen and David. Eileen was incredibly engaged in all of their lives and in the lives of their families. She loved seeing her grandchildren’s activities and rarely missed a recital, sporting or school event. Eileen was always game for a road trip, be it a drive to Algonquin Park to see the colours or the moose, a daytrip to see a grandchild in University or to meet a friend, no matter the distance.

Eileen was a faithful Christian and her strong beliefs and love for God were the foundation for how she lived her life and loved others. It sustained her through difficult times and she openly shared with everyone how blessed she felt for the many, many good times.

Eileen loved to travel and treasured the memories of trips to New Zealand, Europe, across Canada and her many trips to Colorado. Some of her happiest memories were at the cottage in Fenelon Falls with her family.

A collection of pictures she kept has left us with many fond memories to cherish and keep. They will help remind us all of a life well lived.
