Obituary of Shirl Anderson
Shirley (Shirl) Rose Anderson, 13 February 1953 – 25 September 2018, born in Kitchener, Ontario.
Daughter of Veronica nee Palubeskie and Douglas Anderson; sister of Dorothy, Baldwin (Bob) Coulis, and especially of her dear Lillian who was more like a loving mother to her; former wife of David Lawrason; and soul mate of Jo-Ann (Jo) Rowe.
Shirl’s love held a particular focus for “my boys”, her sons Blair and Scott Lawrason, whom she adored.
Shirl graduated from Humber College’s Advertising Program. Her long advertising career included among others Case Associates and international advertising agency DMB & B where she rose to Print Production Manager with awards including for “outstanding creative”. She later focused her professional skills on “Wine Access”, which she built into a well respected four-colour magazine with then husband David Lawrason.
Shirl’s hobbies included riding horses, raising British Short Hair kittens (Stephie being her treasure), designing and renovating her homes, sharing her beloved vinyl music collection with friends, boating with her ‘Hobo’ on Stoney Lake, and appreciating, sharing and entertaining friends with her favourite Sauvignon Blancs.
Shirl was a beautiful sweet soul: ever so quietly competent, gentle and loving; strong, generous and giving, with exceptional integrity and extremely hard working; always shining the light on others.
“Such a bright star among us, Shirl, you will be so deeply missed.
You have moved beyond, never to be forgotten.”
Shirl’s family would like to thank her health team, including Dr. Reena Pattani of St. Michael’s, Dr. Josh Wales of Mt. Sinai’s Palliative Care Team, and the supportive nurses, especially Nadia and Nigel, support workers, especially Karen, and our amazing volunteer Nathan, who assisted her and her beloved Jo in making it possible for Shirl to finish her journey through the trials of her cancer in her favourite place surrounded by loving family and friends.
