Joann profoundly impacted my life after her brother Val died. Val was my boyfriend and my heart was broken. She cared for me in an unwavering way; spent hours by my side, shared my hurt and kept me going. She was my lifeline. I tell this story because it exemplifies the person Joann was. Despite her own pain at the loss of her precious brother, she focused on her concern for me and for her family. We reconnected later in life professionally, but for me the care she showed for a young heartbroken woman is the memory that I love.

It was a privilege knowing Joann as an AMS family member. Her brightness and enthusiasm for life was contagious. She taught me if that if meant something to you, then Do It! Clearly, Joann lived her life this way each and every day. And the world is a much better place because she did.
