Obituary of Donald Joseph Donnelly

In Loving Memory of Donald Donnelly (1961-2025)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Joseph Donnelly, who died suddenly and alone at his home in Barrie, Ontario on September 30, 2025 at the age of 64 years.

Born to Robert and Selina Donnelly, Donald grew up in Greenfield Park on the south shore of Montreal surrounded by a large and close-knit family.  He later made his way to Toronto and ultimately Barrie where he studied at Humber and Georgian Colleges respectively.  His love of education and the law was eternal. 

He is survived by his mother whose devotion to him was unwavering and unconditional, as well as his siblings Sharon, Sandra, Robert and Joyce,  8 nieces and nephews (Jonathan (Erin), Sarah (Doug), Laura, James, Amanda (Logan), Christina (Brian), Adam and Alisha), 10 great nieces and nephews (Taytem, Porter, Maverick, Milo, Carter, Bentley, Penny, Adrianna, Nicholas, Isaac) as well as his close brotherhood (Neil, Dave, Paul) and countless friends.

Donald was known for his gentle spirit, quick wit, and generous heart. Whether sharing stories around the dinner table or singing LeRoy Brown around the coffee table, he enriched all gatherings of friends or family.  He was always there to lend a helping hand to those in need embodied with compassion and humility.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St Basil’s Catholic Parish (50 St. Joseph’s Street, Toronto, ON) on Monday, November 3 at 10 AM followed by the Rite of Committal at Assumption Catholic Cemetery (6933 Tomken Rd, Mississauga, ON).  There are limited parking spaces available up the driveway near the front of the Church.
