Obituary of Edward Charles Mayled

Born in Bristol England, Dad spent his early years being raised by his formidable grandmother, while his father served in WW2.  At the age of 18 he joined the Royal Marines which in many ways shaped his character into a strong and resilient person.  These strengths helped him to weather the storms that so often happen in life.  Being a Royal Marine enabled him to participate in various exercises in Europe.

Dad immigrated to Canada in 1960 where he pursued an incredible career as a packaging designer.  His creative talents as a draftsperson and box maker in England set the stage for an industry where there was little knowledge or expertise in the field of packaging in Canada. Eventually he created his own packaging company that thrived for many years and expanded through various partnerships.  Dad’s professional talents led him to be an international traveller throughout his lifetime. He won multiple awards and had several patents for packaging and inventions that he created or co-created.

Aside from travel, Dad also loved music. He grew up playing the violin. He also spent many years as a tenor singer with an Orpheus choir and also with the choir at church. He participated annually in various Royal Marine activities such as the Warrior’s Day Parades in Toronto and Remembrance Day Parades in Cobourg. He was also a proud Rotarian.

Dad was married twice, with three children from his first marriage and a step-daughter from his second marriage.  He was a grandfather and great grandfather.

Dad was blessed to have been loved by many.  We will miss his unique character and one-of-a-kind personality.  May he rest in peace and may God bless his soul.
