Elaine Stevenson

Obituary of Elaine Macleod Stevenson

ELAINE MACLEOD STEVENSON

Elaine Stevenson passed away in Toronto on March 19, 2024 at the age of 94 years. Adored mother of Kevin (Nicole) and Nancy (James); loving grandmother of Tyler and Madeline. Elaine was predeceased by her husband, Glenn; her brothers, Warren, John and Donald; and her sister, Marion.

Elaine was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on March 27, 1929, the fourth of five children of Andrew and Josephine Henderson. She grew up on the farm outside Craik, in a family full of love that valued hard work, education and kindness. At 16 she left for university. She received her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from the University of Manitoba and then completed her dietetic internship at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. Elaine worked as a dietitian in Montreal until fate intervened and brought Glenn into her life. Introduced through friends on the ski hills of Quebec, Glenn and Elaine met in January, married in June, and had 51 years of happiness.

Residing in Toronto, the happy couple raised their family and enjoyed annual trips west to the family farm and south to Florida. Elaine found great joy in volunteering at the Toronto General Hospital and did so for 25 years, before she and Glenn retired to Muskoka. After Glenn’s passing in 2017, Elaine returned to Toronto and lived at the Claremont Retirement Residence where she made many friends and continued to share her smile, sense of humour and keen interest in others. She loved her family dearly and spoke with her children every day. Her daily walks continued into her 90s, regardless of the weather. As she often reminded us, she was a hardy Westerner and a farm girl from Saskatchewan. Independent, strong, proud, and kind - our beautiful mother. You were our North, South, East and West and lived a wonderful life. We will cherish the love, laughter and memories forever.

A private service will be held at St. John's Norway. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Operation Smile Canada.

We invite you to leave a memory, photo or sentiment of her life here at her memorial legacy page.
