Obituary of Akiko Nakata
Akiko Nakata
March 7th, 1948 - August 26th, 2016
Akiko Nakata age 68, passed away in Toronto Western Hospital Aug 26th, 2016. Born in Kobe, Japan on March 7th, 1948. She was the middle child of Masaichi and Miyoko Nakata.
Raised in Osaka she graduated from university with a major in History. She then married and traveled across Canada, settling down in Ontario. Over the years she and her husband gave birth to two sons, Richard and Ken.
Passing on her love of travel, she took her sons to new and exciting places as often as possible. Teaching many memorable life lessons along the way. Akiko was a loving mother, sister and friend to all who knew her.
Through the years Akiko took her love of adventure and travel and helped guide many Japanese tourists in their own adventures. Whether in the Niagara, Toronto, or Calgary area, she made sure all in her care had smiles on their faces and memories to take home.
Akiko always had a large heart and loved animals. In her later years she spent many hours volunteering at a local nursing home and participated as often as she could with her church group. Often she would be found knitting new blankets and scarves to support the nursing homes. Akiko was never selfish and always cared for others before herself.
Although Akiko was always kind and caring she was also very independent and strong willed. It was this strength that helped her withstand the ALS that finally claimed her life on Aug 26th,2016. Fifteen months after being diagnosed she still retained her strong will and independence despite it all.
Akiko leaves behind her sons, Richard and Ken, a daughter in law Fatima, her brothers Masami and Tsutomu, a sister in law Yuko, her two nephews and niece Yoshihiko, Kazuhiko and Ico, and uncountable friends. She touched so many lives with her warmth, may we meet again in the afterlife.
