Irene Charles (nee Nesbitt)
Irene Charles, in her 97th year, of Toronto, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 26th, 2016. At Irene’s request, Cremation has taken place and a private service will take place on a future date. A Celebration of Life will be held this Sunday October 2nd from 1-5 at Irene’s home, 26 Benlamond Avenue Toronto.
Irene was born to parents Herbert & Ethel Nesbitt in Bradford, England on June 8th, 1920. After graduating from Secretarial School, Irene held a variety of Administrative positions over her working career. Irene retired in 1985 from Toronto East General Hospital where she was the Executive Assistant to the Medical Director for 12 years.
Irene was married at the start of World War II but shortly after was widowed (Norman Foster d. Nov.1941.) In 1950, Irene married Allan Edwin Wills, (the father of their two children) and they immigrated to Canada in 1953. They were married until 1972. She met and married her soulmate in 1980. Jim Charles was a kind, gentle-natured man whom Irene was married to for over 27 years before his passing in August of 2007.
Irene always enjoyed travel with Jim, entertaining family and friends as well as working on many sewing and knitting projects over the years. Irene loved her daily crossword, had a penchant for Dairy Milk Chocolate and always looked forward to take-out from Duckworth’s Fish & Chips on Kingston Road every Wednesday.
Irene is survived by her daughter Jane Bruce, Grandsons: Matthew (Heather) Bruce of Coaldale, Alberta, Anthony Wills of Toronto, Christopher Wills of Vancouver, as well as Nieces and Nephews here and in the U.K.
Irene is preceded in death by husband James Morrow Charles (2007), son Stephen Charles Wills (2009) and her siblings – Gladys, Hilda, Doris & Jim (all of England)
