I heard a number of years ago that my cousin Janet had been "a frail child," and my first reaction was to laugh and ask if anyone had explained that to Janet. We were a year apart in age, and when my family lived in Minnedosa during elementary school, Janet seemed anything but frail! She and I climbed anything and got into everything, spurred on by her contagious enthusiasm, curiosity and laughter. She was a blast!
As the years went on and our lives took different paths--she went east and I went west, we were updated on each other's lives through occasional Christmas cards and our parents. The several times I saw or spoke with her, the years vanished and that infectious laugh of hers took me back through the decades to roasting hot dogs at Trailblazers, or sneaking around giggling and whispering the way little girls do.
It is obvious, however, how many years have flown passed--I still call her Janet, not Jan, and was not aware that her health had deteriorated in the last year or two. We spoke on the phone this summer when she was visiting in Minnedosa, and once again, she had me doubled over laughing as we talked about our kids. And she adored you girls. So very, very much.
Your Mom was full of determination and courage--true grit. An amazing little girl who became an amazing woman. Peace be to her memory.

Just a note to let you know I am thinking of you all at this most difficult time.
Janet was a kind, caring and loyal friend to me. We spent many hours together as young children, teenagers and adults. Time and distance never changed our friendship but only made the times we got together more special and the friendship stronger. Our friendship endured through both the good times and the bad! Janet was most proud of her three girls and lived her life around them as much as she was able only hoping for more time to spend with them.
I will miss Janet so much but my memories of her will be held within my heart until we meet again.

I was saddened to learn of Jan's passing. Over the 30+ years I have known Jan she has always been a gentle, giving and living soul with the ability to see good in others.
