Obituary of Innocenzo Sapienza

Innocenzo Sapienza (Enzo) was born in Catania, Italy on January 10, 1924. He married Clara Auteri 1952 and they had 2 children. In 1960 they emigrated to Montreal, Canada and in 1967 relocated to Toronto. Enzo worked with Alitalia Airlines as an Accounting Supervisor. He was grateful to be able to travel back and forth to Italy with his family, spending many beautiful summers by the sea. He retired at age 60, but continued to travel and helped raise his only and beloved grandson. Enzo was always described as a gentleman; dapper and elegant. An avid photographer and traveler. A lover of art, music, film, literature and soccer. He loved to cook and spend time in nature, often taking long walks with his faithful Lumix Tz2 Leica camera at his side. He approached life with a sense of discipline, strength and precision and was the embodiment of minimalism and simplicity. His off-beat and colourful sense of humor, practical wisdom, and lively philosophical discussions will be forever remembered. Although not a man of great faith, he was a man of great hope. Enzo passed peacefully at Mount Sinai Hospital on Sunday, January 15, 2017, knowing he was loved. At 93, he was still very active on social media, and will be greatly missed by his many friends on Facebook, near and far. The tributes he has received are the true testament to his life and his love of life. He will be deeply missed by his daughter Susanna, his grandson Daniel; who he was both a grandfather and a father to, and will be fondly remembered and missed by his extended family, friends and colleagues . Innocenzo requested a private cremation; that his ashes one day be returned to his beloved Italy and scattered in the Mediterranean Sea he loved so dearly.
