Obituary of Ray Norwood Shirton
With great sadness we announce the passing of Ray Norwood Shirton in his 86th year after a long battle with Dementia at Lakeshore Lodge in Toronto.
Predeceased by his first wife Ursula Shirton and later his second wife Kendra Shirton as well his brothers Charles Andrew Shirton Jr and Kenneth Shirton.
Ray was the second son born to Charles Andrew Shirton and Ethel Baker on October 23, 1931 in South Grimsby Township on the family farm where he also spent many of his early years. Ray joined the Canadian Armed Forces at a very young age. Serving time in Korea, became a paratrooper, and later part of the United Nations Peacekeeping force seeing time in many countries. After leaving the military he was employed by Chocolate Products (George Weston Ltd) for many years before retiring.
Ray enjoyed researching his family tree, reading, socializing, and walking his dog. Ray also particularly enjoyed watching his son and grandson play hockey and rarely missed a game even in his declining health.
Ray will be sadly missed by his son Andy and his wife Viviana, grandsons Christian & Kenny, younger brother George, nephews Jeff & Doug and his dog Brodie.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
