Obituary of Miranda Gillian Sayers
Miranda Gillian Sayers left this life in the early hours of Monday October 8th, 2018. Her passing was sudden, unexpected and will leave a hole in the hearts and lives of those who had the privilege to know her.
A daughter, a sister, a niece, a cousin, a partner and a friend. Miranda will be sadly missed and remembered for her beautiful and ready smile, her fighting spirit, her adventurous nature, her loyalty and acceptance of all people.
Miranda loved travel, had a true affinity for language, a brilliant mind and a thirst for knowledge. But her true passions were her pets and children. She expressed a keen interest, love and affection for all of the children in her life and dreamed of the day she could have her own.
Miranda was born on August 9, 1986 at University Hospital in London Ontario. She was born 10 weeks premature and her first 20 minutes of life were a real fight for survival. This very early and difficult start to life caused issues that would stay with her and cause struggles for her for her whole life.
This tough start did not slow her down and she went on to achieve amazing things throughout her life. She started to talk at nine months and never stopped learning languages. By 2 she could read. At 4 she started in a French only junior kindergarten and was fully bilingual by the end of that year. At 10 she became interested in Chinese orphans and decided to learn Chinese. She attended Chinese school on Saturdays to learn the language. At 16 she boarded a plane for the first time to go to Japan for a year as a Rotary Youth exchange student. She learned the language, the culture and attended high school acquiring 3 credits. Off to university to study Arabic and Muslim culture.
Family travels and her trip to Japan fostered her love of travel. Miranda travelled most countries in Europe, spent a summer studying in Tunisia and Egypt, visited a friend in South Africa and another in Ghana, visited the Bahamas and New York City and most of the eastern USA.
Miranda had a brilliant mind and an IQ of 140. She was a perfectionist who loved to learn and consistently achieved outstanding results in whatever she put her mind to.
She was destined for greatness but life’s path was not an easy one for Miranda. She suffered some very real trauma at key points in her life and, in part due to a combination of the birth-related brain injury to her emotional/trauma response centre and her high IQ, recovery was difficult. Miranda struggled for many years trying every conceivable treatment. Although she had many significant positives in her life the past few years, life remained a daily struggle for Miranda. Still she remained a kind and loving presence to many in her life.
In the end, Miranda left this life the same way she entered: way too early. For reasons we shall never know, at a time we shall never understand, something tipped the scales in the last hours of her life. Miranda finally chose peace and the promise of a pain free, demon free existence.
Her wings were ready even though our hearts were not.
