Gregory McGuffie

Obituary of Gregory McGuffie

It is with much sadness and sorrow that I announce the passing of my stepfather; Gregory Allen Mc Guffie who passed on March 13, 2020.

He left us unexpectedly, although ongoing health conditions contributed to his untimely departure. He had just celebrated his 66th birthday last month and was excited about his future as he was always looking ahead. In the hardest of times he could see the light at the end of the tunnel and find the bright side on the darkest days!

He was predeceased by his best friend, Briley, mother; Helen, father; Percy, & brother; Garnett. He is survived by his three siblings Bruce, Sharon & Audrey, stepdaughter; Ashley along with many nieces, nephews, friends and friends that were like family to him.

Greg was a kind man who touched many lives, warmed many hearts and always knew how to get a good laugh out of everyone he crossed paths with. Giving back to his community played a very important role in his life. He volunteered for many years with the Salvation Army from 2005-2016. Greg was a very social man, he made friends with all his nurses and other patients at his care facility & loved visiting with friends and reconnecting with his siblings over the last few years. He was so appreciative for his weekly visits with his stepdaughter Ashley. He was so proud of her accomplishments & would brag to anyone who would listen. The bond & love they shared was unbreakable & they were both eternally grateful for one another. Anyone who knew Greg knows he loved dogs and that love grew over the years after adopting his pup Briley in 2008. He enjoyed taking her out for walks (snuggled in his sweater) and showing her off at the park. They got attention everywhere they went together and were inseparable up until December 2018 when she was put to rest. Greg was devastated by her loss, she was his best friend & his baby. The thought of her running and jumping into his arms as he passed through the pearly gates puts my heart at ease & a smile on my face!

I found this poem in Greg’s phone, and I’d like to share it with you all…

Miss Me But Let Me Go - Author unknown:

When I come to the end of the road,

and the sun has set on me,

I want no rites in a gloom filled room,

why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little--but not too long,

and not with your head bowed low,

Remember the love that we once shared,

miss me but let me go.

For this is a journey that we all must take,

and each must go alone,

It's all a part of the master's plan,

a step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick of heart,

go to the friends we know,

And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds,

miss me but let me go.

Special thanks to Joni, Monica, Debbie, Patricia & Tilly for their ongoing support & friendship!

Greg's remains will be cremated on March 17th and will be buried in his hometown of Sudbury, together with Briley and his family in a private ceremony.

A Celebration of Life will be held this summer in Toronto for friends who would like to share a story & have a laugh!
