Obituary of Joseph Michael Bohonos

Dear Dad, I'll always remember... How you patiently taught a young me to paint, helping me produce a giant portrait of a smiling, turquoise dolphin for my bedroom wall. When you took on an epic papier maché project with my best friend and I, spending all day to make elaborate masks with us. How we spent hours outside in the spring, digging ditches, building bridges, and floating things down the stream we'd made. How you gave everyone a nickname... Or two, or five. And sang little made-up songs for everything. When you let me drive the car through our neighbourhood at the ripe age of 11, and I forgot where the brakes were. When we graffitied the basement wall with all my friends at my twelfth birthday party. When we used to get out the baseball gloves for a good old-fashioned game of catch in the park. How we'd walk along Queen St. E., stopping in all your favourite shops, then head down to the beach for a stroll, a search for beach glass and some rock skipping. How we always drank champagne and orange juice on Christmas mornings. That you'd make my favourite dish whenever I requested it: fettuccine carbonara, perfect every time. How you took us to galleries, and talked about art, pointing out fine details, feelings, and impressions. When you'd come to visit and play with Soraya and Kian, the grandkids, reading books, making art, and being goofballs together. Your constant movement, a cheerful, bustling energy; you could never sit still for long. You were a true artist with a busy mind. And you were the ultimate host, always welcoming and generous, ready with a toast, a laugh and a hug. We will miss you. Love you lots, Ry, Sal, Soraya and Kian Joseph Michael Bohonos... What can I say; well. You were my dad, papa joe, daddy-o. Father of mine. You are missed, coolest dad a guy could ever ask for. Teacher in a hip suit. Particular as shit. You taught me (tried) good habits even for my bad habits. I'm as stubborn as you but reflecting now I think I remember enough to learn still from your past lessons (and mistakes). My muse. You inspired me to better myself and still have fun along the way. My biggest critic but always ALWAYS constructive. Classy as shit amazing artist great cook. Anyone that you made time for was affected by you. Your confidence was outstanding. Like I said miss you already and always will. Love you long time. Xoxo.
