DRAGANA SAMODOL
July 8, 1938
October 23, 2020
Dragana passed away peacefully at home in the late evening hours of October 23, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She had a long and courageous battle with dementia and cancer.
Dragana was a loving wife of 56 years to Ivan, proud mother to Michel Christian(Danijela) and Daniel Denny (Marketa). An adoring baba to Dylan, Sebastian, Christian and Matthew, who will miss her deeply.
Dragana will be sadly missed by her brother Miso, her niece Dragana, and nephew Vaso and their families in Serbia. She was predeceased by her parents Draginja and Nikola, and her sister Dana.
She will be most fondly remembered by her family, friends and kumovi all over the world.
Dragana was born in Kragujevac, Jugoslavija in 1938 to Draginja and Nikola Blitva. On June 30th, 1964, Dragana and Ivan married in Nice, France and shortly after immigrated to Canada, thanks to the sponsorship of Monsieur Robert and Madame Irene Thivierge of Montreal. Once arriving in Canada they successfully opened Cattlemen Meat Market in the Parkdale/Roncesvalles area. It is now reaching its 5th decade of business.
Dragana dedicated her time to helping her husband with the family business and raising her two sons.
In her later years she most enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and in joining the Circle Of Serbian Sisters at the All Saints Serbian Orthodox church where she was highly respected and loved for her years of volunteering.
Her friends and family remember her for her generosity, love of taking photos, frequent travelling and her talent in picking up languages. She was outgoing, had a great sense of humour and loved to have guests and entertain.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the nurses and doctors at Dorothy Ley Hospice for all of their assistance in taking care of our dear Dragana.
A special heartfelt thank you to Dragana’s daughter-in-law, Danijela for all of the love and care that she gave to Dragana in the last 18 months of her life.
