Dear Loly
it is hard to express the deep sense of loss we all feel with Francisco gone. Francisco was always at the other end of the phone when needed, and nothing was too small or too big for him: from hosting a family of refugees who just landed in your living room, to briefing US Bishops on Canadian refugee policy, to giving advice to people trying to feel their countries -- he always responded to my varied requests for help, with clarity, grace and good humor.
He was my "go to person" on anything to do with refugees. We knew he responded with a deep sense of compassion born of his own experience and his love for the people -- which you also share.
I, like many others feel his loss already. We have lost an advocate and a friend.
I hope that his spirit of love and laughter, of strength and passion may be with you and your children and grandchildren now and in the days, and months and years to come to comfort you and to inspire you.
Francisco, presente!
Much love
Jenny

Rest In Peace, dear friend. Wishing you comfort and peace. As we cherish and find comfort in the memories and celebration of your life.

The light of this candle pales in comparison to the light you shone to countless who lived in the dark and with your help, found light, hope and safety.
May you rest in peace and the love you gave so freely and generously forever surround you.
Love you, Francisco.

Dear Loly and family,
I have no words to express adequately my profound sadness at your loss. I have known Francisco for the last 20 years and I truly loved, admired and respected him. He was unique. He made me a better person, lawyer and advocate for refugees and those who are marginalized. I will forever be grateful that I met him, when I was a law student. I am comforted knowing that during the special times we spent together I told him how much I love him, and what a huge difference he made to my life. He has been the single biggest inspiration in my becoming a refugee lawyer and I will forever be grateful that I was blessed to have met him and become his friend. I recall him calling me Adelita and explaining what this means.
I know how Francisco touched the lives of countless people. He provided hope, inspiration and he opened for them doors that had been firmly closed. He opened my eyes as a law student to the importance of refugee work and I am so glad that I met him. I recall driving in New York many years ago and becoming lost and asking for directions at a church. The people there were so friendly to me that I found myself telling them about the FCJ and Francisco and Loly and by the time I left, they were googling him and admiring him. This was his unconscious gift: he made others feel inspired, valued, he gave hope and he built a community of people who were inspired by him to pass along his passion and generosity. I feel his loss immensely but he will always have a special place in my heart. I love you Loly, take care of yourself, and I will always be here to support you and your family.

To the family, friends and colleagues of Francisco, please accept my condolences for your loss.
I did not have the pleasure of knowing Francisco as well as the countless others whose lives he touched. But however brief our encounters, they were enough to impress me with his passionate advocacy for the people and the causes to which he was so dedicated. I am sure that this spirit extended to other parts of his life, and that "his legacy of love and hope" brought comfort and joy to many, many people. We will miss him.
Requiescat in pace.
