Passed away peacefully at Cedarbrook Lodge, Scarborough on August 21, 2022 in his 99th year.

Predeceased by first wife Marjorie (1968), second wife Georgina (2008), son Blake (2002) and his four siblings Herbert, Dorothy, Terry and Ester.

Survived by daughter, Pamela McCartin (Stephen), step-daughter Gloria Rifle (Dave), grandchildren.

Ernie was born in Hamilton on June 16, 1924 to Ernest and Tekla Sundquist and lived in the Greater Toronto Area until 12 years of age when his family moved to a farm in the community of Kipling in northern Ontario.

Ernie proudly served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II, stationed in Iceland.

After his wartime service he settled in Toronto, married Marjorie and worked at Link Belt-FMC Canada for approximately thirty years.

He retired in the late-1970s and he and Georgina moved to View Lake on Lake Scugog. At various times in his life, he enjoyed many hobbies and activities including sailing, golfing, gardening and woodworking. He had a remarkable musical talent and a gifted ability to play the accordion “by ear”.

Eventually he returned to Scarborough and lived with Frances in her home until he moved to Cedarbrook Lodge due to increasing dementia. Special appreciation for all his caregivers at the Lodge who gave him exemplary care and compassion until his final day.

He will always be remembered for his smile and gentle spirit, spur of the moment witticisms and many fond family memories.

In accordance with his wishes there will not be a funeral service. Cremation has taken place.

Memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Ontario or the Scarborough Health Network would be appreciated. The links can also be accessed at the top of this page.
