Obituary of Phyllis Agnes Henery

Phyllis Henery, beloved wife, sister, mother, and grandmother died Saturday August 27th, 2022, at her home in Mississauga Ontario. She was 77 years old.

Phyllis was born to Barry and Ruby Lewis on March 31st, 1945. After graduating from St. Rose’s High School, she pursued a career working for the government of Guyana and Banks DIH Limited. She married Charles Henery in 1967 and together they had two children: Nadia and Alister.

After the birth of her second child, Phyllis chose to stop working and embraced her new role of full-time caring for her children. It was during these years that she mastered the art of cooking, a talent that she turned into her second career when she and her family moved to Trinidad. She became well known and loved for her cooking skill, by many for the rest of her days.

After moving to Toronto Canada in 1989, she started a new career working as an executive assistant to her brother-in-law. She continued to impress many with her skills in the kitchen in particular baking Guyanese Black Cake and her infamous cheese straws for many people from all over the greater Toronto area. Her pleasant personality and warm smile were contagious to everyone she met.

Phyllis is survived by; her husband Charles, her daughter Nadia (Michael) step grandchildren Joshua, Keshia and Shane, her son Alister (Robin), granddaughter Meghan, siblings Mary, Peggy & Jim along with dozens of cousins, nieces, and nephews. 

A Memorial Service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Tuesday September 6th, 2022, with visiting 1 hour prior, at The Anglican Church of St. John The Baptist (Dixie) 719 Dundas Street East, Mississauga at Cawthra. Parking is available in the large lot adjacent to the church. Please use the north entry.

The Rite of Committal will take place on Wednesday, September 7 at 2 p.m. at Glendale Memorial Gardens (1810 Albion Road, Etobicoke). Guests wishing to attend are asked to assemble no later than 1:50 p.m. at the cemetery office parking lot, which can be accessed using the first entrance on Carrier Drive, closest to Albion Road. Keep right when you enter to pull into the parking lot. From there, we will make our way together by car to the section.
