Obituary of Gini Bechard

Ginimarie Lynn Bechard 

December 1st, 1977 - July 28 th, 2023 

Words cannot do justice to feelings of the heart. We have tried to capture some sentiments to honour who Gini is:

Ginimarie (Gini) was taken from us too soon. She was our rock and tethered us to our best selves. Gini spent her life helping us all to grow and be strong, like she was. We will miss her strength, humor, and advice.  

Gini leaves behind two beautiful children that she loved so dearly, Patrick (12) and Louise (10) and her two treasured stepchildren Rhys (12) and Ben (9). She leaves her loving life partner, Lou, in heartbreak. Gini spent the last year close to her mother (Sandy) who has been by her bedside. Gini’s supportive sister (Allison) and her cherished nephews, Julian (10) and Ezra (6), her dogs, especially Indy, and many loving friends and family, are left behind to appreciate her and the gifts she gave each of us.

Gini loved to cook and eat good food. She loved to bike and see new places. She loved her friends and because she was so thoughtful and listened so closely to us, she was the best at picking out just the right present for someone, or just the right place to eat. 

Gini was a skilled therapist and organized a community of clinicians who valued her leadership, care, and knowledge. The counselling community has lost a respected leader in the field and her clients will feel this loss immensely.

Gini, you bring us together and connect our spirits, but we are sure this won’t be your last gift to us. We will carry you now in our hearts and take you everywhere with us. 

In honour of Gini's memory and her deep appreciation for the tranquility of green spaces, we kindly request donations towards a dedicated park bench in her name. This lasting tribute will serve as a place for others to find space and enjoy moments that Gini cherished dearly. A family friend (Danielle Kwan-Lafond) has set up an account to manage the funds. A celebration of her life will be held at a future date and to be announced here.
