Obituary of Mary Kevan Quinn
Our family is saddened to share the news of Mary Kevan’s passing in the early morning hours of October 9th at Mount Sinai Hospital here in Toronto.
Mary Kevan a.k.a. Maggie Mutt or Over Coat Mary, was born in Windsor, Ontario on August 14, 1954. Mary was the 7th child born to Hugh and Harriet Quinn from Amherstburg, Ontario. Mary grew up with 10 siblings, some would say a baseball team in the making.
She attended grade school and high school in Amherstburg and graduated from General Amherst High School in 1973.
Mary Kevan moved to Toronto in the fall of 1973 and began a 43 year career with CIBC. Mary worked her way up to Branch Manager, primarily at branches in the east end of Toronto. In 1996 Mary moved out of branch life to Head Office in the Credit Room. From there to Mortgage and Lending from where she retired in 2016.
Mary Kevan enjoyed leisurely walks and reading. However her greatest pleasure was in creating many, many quilts. Family and friends were the lucky recipients of her masterpieces. Estimating that Mary Kevan completed 75 quilts may be under estimated. There is no doubt that everyone who has one (or two) of her quilts will treasure them for years to come. As soon as she learned of an upcoming baby joining the family, Mary Kevan was planning a new quilt! She did not stop at quilts; many of us in the family have table runners, wall hangings , napkins and hand towels, all made with love.
Mary Kevan’s love for her home town never waned. She visited often and even considered moving back.
Mary Kevan was pre-deceased by her brother Tim in 2021 ( Betty).
Mary Kevan will be greatly missed by Susan (Hans), Nancy (Murray) ,Terry (Winnie), Faunie (Rick), Vicki (Don), Michael (Karen), Sean (Sherry), Keith (Sandra), and Jack (Kristine). Mary Kevan was Aunt to 26 nieces and nephews and Great Aunt to 28. She will be missed by many friends and cousins.
Mary Kevan was best friend in life to Raymond Barber.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday October 21st, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm with visiting at 1 pm, followed by a tribute to Mary at 1:30 pm and a light reception at St. John the Baptist-Dixie Anglican Church Parish Hall, 719 Dundas Street East at Cawthra, Mississauga.
