Obituary of George Papadakos
It is with deep sorrow that the Papadakos family announces the passing of George Papadakos on February 10, 2024, at the age of 86.
He will be dearly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 49 years Helen, his daughter, Voula, son, Leonidas (Luz), and grandson, Matthew.
George was born in Kalivia, Greece, in 1937, and immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1958. He embraced Canadian culture, initially learning about hockey to assimilate, and eventually became an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He dedicated many years of hard work as a bartender, notably at the Windsor Arms Hotel, and later retired from Wyndham Bristol Place Hotel.
Pappou as we affectionally started to call him greeted everyone with a smile and a warm “Hello my friend”. His passion for the ocean and fishing led us to Cape Cod annually, where he cherished the early mornings by the sea. His love and passion for cars was passed down to his nephews, son and grandson.
We invite you to join us in celebrating his life on Tuesday, February 13th, at Prophet Elias Church (1785 Matheson Blvd in Mississauga), with viewing from 10:15 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., followed by the Orthodox Rite of Funeral on-site at 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The Orthodox Rite of Burial will follow at St. John's Dixie Cemetery (737 Dundas Street East at Cawthra, Mississauga).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Princess Margaret Hospital or the Canadian Cancer Society, which can be submitted through the Donations tab on his homepage.
Please share a memory, photo or sentiment of George's life here at his memorial legacy page.
