To share only a memory would never do this amazing, strong, fearless modern woman justice. To know Gloria was to love her, it’s as simple as that. Growing up and running around her house and acting as crazy little kids do, she just allowed us that freedom to be who we wanted to be, always encouraging us to do more, push the status quo and don’t just accept mediocrity. We’d be intentionally naughty, and she’d give as that smile and wink as our parents would try to reel us in. She accepted everyone for face value and never tried to change you.
One of my early memories is when Aunty Gloria would call me over and make me English tea - in a real tea cup!! Adding a dash, or three, of sugar and a splash of milk. I felt so grown up! To this day, I think of her every time I have tea!
If you knew Gloria, you know she wasn’t fond of cooking but loved to eat - Joe was always a fantastic cook (curry eggs, yes please!) we had many MANY tim sun dates, just us two gals and she loved to show me all the “hole in the wall” places she’d source on her adventures!
Driving with Aunty Gloria was always an adventure - I’m laughing thinking of it - if you know, you know. We always made it!
I can’t sum up the memories in words, she was everything you’d need in a mentor, an aunt, a fellow female leader. She was everything. I will grieve her forever because I was so loved by her.
Thank you tia, for being my home away from home when I moved back, for being me confidant, and my friend. Mia will know who you were because we’ll never stop talking about you.
Say hi to my Dad - I’ll see you again one day. Love you forever and always.
