Obituary of Thomas Fredrick Thornton
Thomas Fredrick Thornton
July 6, 1950 - October 23, 2024
Tom was, to all that knew him, charming but frustrating, stubborn but fun, affectionate but brutally honest, introverted but loved a party. He lived life with much struggle but always by his own free will. He was very fortunate for the people he had in his life, that loved him, took him in, worried about him, and put up with him through all the ups and downs. He was fairly adventurous in his younger years, but hard living and 50 years of working as a painter took its toll on his body. The last five years became especially challenging for him but he got to experience it with the perspective of sobriety for the first time in decades. His one constant through it all was a love for Blue Jays baseball, his last choice of outfit being a Blue Jays t-shirt.
Tom was born and raised in Scarborough, ON to Grace and Howard (d. 1997). He is father to Tina, Sarah (d. 2004), and Jesse; grandfather to Willow and Owen. He passed away peacefully at home, at a time of his choosing (thank you to MAiD), with his kids and grandkids by his side. He is survived by his mother, Grace, and his three sisters, Norma, Sheri, and Wendy. All that knew and loved him will miss him dearly.
In lieu of funeral services, the family will hold a private celebration-of-life sometime in the new year.
