Obituary for Vera Edith Ryan. Never, could there be enough words to communicate on the wonderful person that Mom was. The world is without one great person. Vera will live on in the minds of all that she touched. It seems from a number of conversations, that she never stopped with opinions, but, also, had an open mind. Her humour and kindness will always be remembered.

We are very sorry for your loss. A mother's love is special. The same things that give us the most joy, give us the most sorrow. I will always have fond memoires of Aunt Vera, like when she taught me how to parallel park her mustang convertible. She was thoughtful enough to drive all the way to our home so I could have $5.00 spending money on a school trip to Ottawa(I was rich)! She had a special knack for getting you on the dance floor or in the game. My mother Mary and Aunt Vera were always playing jokes or pulling pranks. I think they inherited that from Nanny Ryan. We will miss her spirit. There must be one hell of a card game going on in heaven!

When I think of Aunt Vera I think fun! As a child she was the relative that always singing, dancing and having fun. She always made me feel special as a little girl and treated me with love and respect as an adult. I will miss her smile and her warm heart.

So sorry for the loss of your mother and grandmother. From past stories I was impressed by Vera's strength in her many years of hard work in some not so rewarding jobs to support her sons as a single mom.
It was apparent when I first met Vera that she had a strong nature plus a great sense of style ....always put together! Amazingly she kept up both of these even while struggling through her ill health.
I was aware of her kind hearted nature to always help friends, family and her own caregivers in their time of need.
Vera cherished her dogs and later showed such love to our dog "Sadie" when caring for her when we travelled.
Vera will be fondly missed

Mom was a terrific person. All though her life she seemed to instill a little bit of wisdom. Numerous people have contacted us with a similar message. Vera, seemed to have a lot to say in a little way. Everyone that she came in contact with is a better person just by talking and enjoying her company. Whether it was in the early years, when she was much more mobile, she was the first one on the dance floor or table. Always with a smile, she enjoyed the simple things in life. Her two kids, were the most important things in her life. When we were younger, the money was a little scarce, and there was a winter where as long as the boys had a coat, she would make do with what she had. Obviously everyone remembers Nat, and all the clothes that mom would get. Back then, she was the "model size", these outfits were all samples and one of a kind, just like her.
Time at the cottage was fun, and we, with the help of Nanny and Aunt Joan, would spend our summer up at Wasaga. I do remember, there were not that many times that she was up there for a week of vacation. I think she worked her holidays, to provide us with "stuff". She would come up for the weekend.
Funny times, were swimming with Aunt Mary and Nanny at Mark Twain, where they built Aunt Mary a swimsuit. Laughing, that was a site and a really funny night. We also got Mary on the wild mouse ride. Her voice and Mom could be heard from anywhere in the area. Teaching Linda how to walk with books on her head.
Ryan Christmas parties, were always fun. I remember one time at the Firemans club, Pat Ryan had a DJ friend, we were all of 15, nobody wanted to dance, Mom got up there and pulled people up just to get on the dance floor. It was like being in the gym at a school dance!
I could go on and on, maybe will do so on Saturday. I think everyone that knows me, realizes I can go on and on....LOL.
In the end, my Mom was a very special person, one of the greatest. She will be missed. I am so glad she got to spend 17 years with my daughter Laurel. She loved being a grandmother. Mom was living with me, and Steve was a great help often taking her shopping when I was at work. The past 32 months were filled with fun, and some sadness as I could see the deterioration in her health. One of the very best meals that we shared with Mom, Laurel, Steve and I, was at this past Easter. She seemed full of life, with her family there with her. A funny comment from Steve, after a second helping of turkey and a few pieces of the deserts that Sharon brought, "Mom, that was one of the best meals you have had in months".... Sadly, our very last meal together. We, didn't think to take a picture, but, memories do last forever.
That is where my Mom will be, forever in my heart. Rest in Peace Mom.. we love you!

My deepest sympathy Mitch and Stephen. Whenever I think of your mom I have a huge smile on my face. She had a personality that was larger than life. She remains as one of the most influential women in my life. She told me that barriers and walls were made to be broken, get out there and do some smashing. I wish I could be there this weekend!
