You will truly be missed!!
I know when we crossed paths we both had are own demons we were struggling with but even when at your worst you still had that smile shinning, one of my favourite memories with you was sitting across the street of your grandparents house on the cement ledge talking for hours in the middle of the day and night :) you always had my back and I thank you so much for that! I know Ronnie would be proud I wish you had more time with us, I wish I had a chance to say goodbye in person you will always have a special place in my heart. Danny may you rest in peace I'll always miss you!

My deepest condolences to all of Danny's family, mother father, grandfather, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many close friends, you all held a special place in his heart.
It is so hard to think he will no longer laugh with us, share a joke, oh how he could make you smile even when you didn't feel like doing so. I watched him through good times and difficult times but no matter the hardships he got through them with strength and dignity.
Kind, good hearted, musician, poet, chef, Danny was so much to many people. I know he could do anything he set his mind to. He Touched the hearts of everyone who was lucky enough to have him in thier lives, even if only fo a short while.
Danny will be forever in my memories and heart.
Taken away much to soon, Rest in Peace my Amigo, until we meet again. I hope you are "Dancing in the Sky"

I am at a loss for words and my heart aches for what should have been. We were cousins by blood but in the true sense of how closely we grew up together I considered you a sibling (my third pain in neck little brother <3 ). Life did not turn out how any of us expected, but I guess it rarely does, do me a favour and give my dad a hug. We talked about how things were going to get back to how they were supposed to be and I know how much you loved all of us, I only hope in our last conversation together you knew how much I loved you. Beautiful, creative, kind, bright, hilarious, and never afraid to get a little weird – Daniel was an extraordinary person with so many gifts. All I keep thinking is how horribly unfair it is that he won't get to see his dreams and plans through, and that the people in his life now suddenly must learn to live without his smile and laughter, his warmth and passion, his caring nature, not to mention the effortless magic he made in the kitchen. We have lost a genuine treasure of a human being and I feel privileged to have known him.
To his family and close friends from Toronto to São Miguel, I'm sure he knew just how much he was loved. You were his life and my heart goes out to you.
In one of our last conversations, Daniel introduced me to the poet from São Miguel, Antero de Quental, who himself met a tragic end. Danny mentioned this poem as one of his favourites, so I thought I would share it (in Portuguese, as it was written).

When I got the call and heard the sad news of Danny's passing, I didn't want to believe it. Danny and I were childhood friends. He was the cutest boy in school. He was my very first crush. He was my first dance partner, and he will always be in my heart forever.
I want you to know how truly sorry I am for your loss. Danny was one of the nicest people I know and I know that he was a wonderful son to you as well. I will keep you in my thoughts and pray that you will find the strength and courage to get through this very difficult time.
Danny will be terribly missed. He was loved by all of us and he will be cherished in our memories forever.

My deepest condolences to the Viera family. My prayers are with you. Danny was and still is a very special and good friend. We met when both our lives were at its lowest, and in those times we were there for each other to lift each other's spirits. Since 2009 we remained friends almost like family. Danny had a way about him where you would do anything for him. His character was genuine and his loyalty to friends and family was unmoving. Friends like him are hard to come by.
