Obituary of Ross Lawler
It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Roswald Michael Lawler (known as Ross). Ross was born in Goose Bay, Newfoundland on May 19th, 1950 and passed away on Friday, June 10th, 2022 at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, Ontario.
Amazing father to his children, Shawn Lawler (Sarah Thompson) and Patricia Lawler, as well as loving grandfather to Shawn and Sarah’s son, Jesse. Caring brother to Dawn Lawler, Kurt Lawler (Barb), Roger Lawler (Cecilia), Harley Lawler (Cindy), Tony Lawler, Nola Gruchy (Don) and Paul Lawler as well as many nieces/nephews, great nieces/nephews. He will also be remembered by the Woodbridge families that treated him as family, including the Donato’s, Femia’s and Sanvido’s, plus the numerous athletes he coached to multiple track & field and basketball championships as well as caring friends he made along the way like Ken Czaplicki, Dianne Campbell and Conor Russell. Predeceased by his wife, Barbara Cecylia Lawler (née Kuczkowski), brother Gerry Lawler, sister-in-law Debbie Lawler (née Robinson) and parents, Ford John and Pearl Frances Lawler (née Cosgrove).
Ross was a dedicated and compassionate teacher and coach for countless students throughout his 30+ years in the York Catholic District School Board after receiving a guaranteed contract directly out of Teacher’s College. Receiving that guarantee so quickly was one of proudest moments of his life as he loved teaching so much. He taught at both the elementary and secondary levels where he nourished the minds of too many students to count. He even had the pleasure of teaching multiple generations of the same families.
He loved teaching so much that, after retirement, he continued teaching students with specific learning abilities on their assistive technology devices or platforms at several school boards within Ontario. Ross was passionate about his students and a true advocate that was not afraid of making some noise for all that he felt were not receiving the tools they required to be successful.
