Obituary of Gilbert D'Souza
Gilbert D’Souza, beloved husband, father, and brother passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 11th, 2022, in Mississauga, Ontario, surrounded by family. He was 70 years old.
Gilbert was born to Maggie and Joseph D’Souza on September 12th, 1951, in Bombay, India. After graduating from St. Aloysius college, Mangalore, Karnataka, he worked for Reserve Bank of India, Bakelite Hylam, and Hindustan Lever in Bombay, and later joined Unilever (African & Eastern) as a sales manager in the Middle East. He married Janette Pereira in 1980 and they had three children: Gordon, Jean, and Gail.
In 1990, Gilbert became the general manager of Al Taqa Equipment LLC., a business in building management systems and HVAC controls, that had agencies for Honeywell, Schneider and Barcol Air. His company flourished for 28 years in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. In 2012, Gilbert immigrated to Mississauga, Canada, and became a member of Canadian Canara Vision Inc. in 2016. From 2018 onwards, Gilbert served as the chairman of the committee and was also an avid investor.
Gilbert was an ardent lover of Konkani culture, language, and heritage and was always striving to make a difference in the lives of Konkans residing in Canada. He was always ready to help anyone in need, and was well known in Mangalore, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Mississauga among the universal Konkani community. Gilbert was a fun-loving, family man, who enjoyed playing the guitar, singing Konkani songs and dancing.
Gilbert is survived by; his wife, Janette D’Souza, children, Gordon, Jean and Gail, son-in-law, Johan, brother, Robert, sister, Juliet, and relatives.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church (5650 Mavis Rd, Mississauga, ON L5V 2X5) on Saturday, September 17th, 2022, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., followed by the Rite of Committal at Meadowvale Cemetery (Section 34, St. Peter's Burial Place, 7732 Mavis Rd., Brampton, ON, L6Y 5L5).
