Obituary of Palmira Monteiro
PALMIRA MONTEIRO
(February 22, 1935 – May 7, 2023)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Palmira Monteiro on Sunday May 7th, 2023, at the age of 88 years, at St. Joseph’s Health Centre after a sudden illness. Loving wife of Vincent (Vincy) for 51 years and devoted/cherished mother of Annette.
Palmira (fondly known as Pam) is also survived by her older sisters Phyllis (late Theo), Alice (late Joseph, London UK) and younger brother Julius (late Tina, London UK). She is also lovingly remembered by her adoring nieces, nephews and many extended family and friends around the world.
Palmira was born in Jinja, Uganda and grew up working in Kenya Bakery helping the successful family business. She dedicated her life to providing a beautiful life for her family and continued to work hard in Canada.
Despite her disability as a polio survivor, many can attest that nothing stopped her. With amazing fortitude, she worked in Canada, drove her own car, navigated and advocated for her life with incredible independence and faith.
She was soft-spoken and loved being with family and friends. She loved entertaining and was well known for her delicious cooking, especially her fabulous curry puffs, samosas and meatball curry.
Her family would like to thank the caring staff at Wesburn Manor long-term care for giving her the best comfort and friendship over the last 6 years.
Also sincere thanks to the staff at St. Joseph’s Health Centre.
In keeping with her final wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial Mass will be celebrated on June 2nd, 2023, at 10am at Holy Angels Church located at 61 Jutland Road, Etobicoke (Toronto), ON.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish, you can make a donation to the War Amps Canada or an animal charity of your choice via the Donations tab on her home page.
Please share your memories, photos and sentiments of her life here at her memorial web page.
